"Despite several reminders to the Union ministry of social justice and empowerment for regular payment of the Rs 200,000 monthly grant to the home, in the past few months there has been no response," the home's secretary Ratan Sarkar said on Tuesday.
Congress MP A B A Ghani Khan Chaudhury and West Bengal Minister of Prison and Social Welfare Biswanath Chaudhury had also separately taken up the matter with the Centre but there has been no headway, Sarkar said adding the home was now being run with monetary help from some NGOs, which cannot continue forever.
Inaugurated in 1995, the home used to get the monthly financial grant from the Centre on a regular basis till 1999.
The 15 senior citizens at the home, all aged between 70-80 years, according to home officials.
