"It was Fernandes who had asked for a special full audit report on the purchases made during the Kargil war," party spokesman V K Malhotra told reporters in Delhi.
He said Fernandes came to know of the issue only after the CAG report was raised in Parliament in the wake of media reports.
Malhotra said the report would go to Parliament's Public Accounts Committee, which is headed by Congress member N D Tiwari, and action would be taken against those found responsible.
