Bus carrying 60 persons hijacked in Bengal

Armed miscreants hijacked a bus along with nearly 60 members of a marriage party from a village in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district while dacoits looted 13 houses in two nearby villages in the same district, police sources said on Thursday.

About 60 persons went to Homra village under Canning police station on Wednesday night after leaving their bus at nearby Milan Bazar area of Bhangar due to narrow road.

While they returned to the bus after the wedding, a group of armed miscreants hijacked the bus and set off to an unknown destination, the sources said.

There was no trace of the bus, the sources said adding no formal complaint was lodged.

Meanwhile, dacoits looted 13 houses in two villages under Sonarpur and Canning police station areas on Wednesday night.

After feigning as police officers, the dacoits entered nine houses in Gannti Arjuna village and decamped with valuables worth Rs 100,000, police said.

The dacoits entered the village when most of the inhabitants were watching a video show and asked the people to open the doors since they had come from the police station.

When the people refused to oblige, they forcibly made their entry and started looting valuables.

Two persons were injured when they tried to resist the dacoits, the police said.

Four houses of Banamalipur village were also looted and dacoits decamped with about Rs 50,000, the police said.
