Maharashtra is like our elder brother: Keshubhai

Gujarat Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel described Maharashtra as an elder brother who stood by his state in the critical period following the devastating Republic Day earthquake.

"Maharashtra has supported Gujarat like an elder brother," Patel told his visiting Maharashtra counterpart Vilas Deshmukh in Ahmedabad on Friday and thanked him for his government's help in the rescue and relief operations.

Deshmukh was accompanied by his wife Vaishali, Revenue Minister Ashok Chavan, Minister of State for Home Kripashankar Singh and Principal Secretary Jonny Joseph. Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee president Govind Adik also accompanied them.

He also reviewed the relief works undertaken by the Maharashtra government in Gujarat.

The chief minister's delegation also visited the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee office in Ahmedabad and appraised the local Congress workers of the work being done by the Maharashtra government. Senior Congress politician Ahmed Patel was present.
