Ranga Rao files bail plea

Dr P V Ranga Rao, son of former prime minister P V Narasimha Rao, who was arrested on the charge of cheating Tamil actor Rajnikant over repayment of a Rs 20 million loan, Tuesday moved a bail application before the metropolitan sessions judge in Hyderabad.

Rao, a former Andhra Pradesh minister, was arrested along with his former personal assistant Gopalakrishna Reddy by the city police last week after Rajnikant lodged a complaint.

Rao is undergoing treatment for chest pain at the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences in Hyderabad, where he was admitted soon after his arrest last Saturday.

The bail application sought the release of Dr Rao on the ground that the case was not maintainable since the contents of the FIR lodged by Rajnikant on January 29 were contradictory to the notice issued under section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act on January 27, in which the facts regarding the money transaction for making of a film were not mentioned.
