In Kutch, a doctor sees nearly 80 injured a day

In Kutch district, the worst affected in the January 26 earthquake, doctors are a hard pressed lot with each of them attending to over 80 injured every day.

"There are only 34 hospitals functioning with 488 doctors in 949 villages and eight towns in Kutch district. They are taking care of over 400,000 injured, many of whom have suffered multiple fractures," a top official said.

However, chief coordinator of relief supplies L Mansingh says there is no dearth of medicines or medical facilities in Bhuj or any other part of the state.

When compared to Bhuj, Ahmedabad is much better off. There are 908 doctors spread across 22 hospitals to attend to 4030 injured here.

In Rajkot district, where 10,567 persons were injured in the quake, 313 doctors in 22 hospitals are on call all 24 hours.
