Kin of Bagdigi miners get jobs, compensation

Dependents of four miners killed in the recent mishap at the Bagdigi colliery of the Bharat Coking Coal Limited near Dhanbad in Jharkhand have been given jobs and compensation by the company.

So far bodies of Pritam Singh (cable operator), Chhotu Mian (line mazdoor), Chanderdeo Harijan (dresser) and Brij Mohan Singh (mazdoor) have been recovered.

BCCL sources said the company has paid amounts ranging from Rs 2.97 lakh to Rs 3.32 lakh -- comprising workman compensation, gratuity and insurance -- to the widows of each of those killed.

Besides, jobs have been given to the sons of Pritam Singh and Chhotu Mian and widows of Chanderdeo Harijan and Brij Mohan Singh.

Salim Ansari, one of the miners rescued on Thursday from the Bagdigi colliery, is recovering in a Dhanbad hospital.

Meanwhile, water level has gone down to 106 metre in the flooded Bagdigi mine.

Sources said four roto pumps were being installed to pump out slush and water from the colliery which was flooded last Friday trapping 38 miners.
