Missile misfires during demo in AP

Tragedy struck during a demonstration firing of an anti-tank missile at the Bharat Dynamics Limited, a production unit of the Indian defence ministry in Andhra Pradesh, when a missile misfired and hit a wall bursting into flames.

The blaze killed a person and wounded five others on Thursday, at Kanchanbag, near the state capital Hyderabad, BDL sources said.

The BDL is a vital complex which houses Prithvi, Akash and Trishul missiles manufacturing units.

According to BDL sources, the missile struck a wall in the missile integrating complex Milan, causing a fire which was later brought under control.

The deceased was identified as K N Chari, a quality control inspector.

The injured were admitted to nearby private hospitals.

Earlier in the day, Defence Secretary Yogendra Narain visited the BDL complex.

Police said investigations into the incident were on.
