NDA team to visit Garbeta

Rifat Jawaid in Calcutta

A National Democratic Alliance team will visit Garbeta in Midnapore district in West Bengal where 14 Trinamul activists were burnt alive on Thursday night. The team will arrive in Bengal on Saturday morning.

Trinamul Congress leader Pankaj Banerjee told newspersons in Calcutta that despite the fact party chief Mamata Banerjee could not walk due to the pain in her feet, she would visit Garbeta with other Trinamul leaders.

Pankaj Banerjee said he did not know of the composition of the NDA team. He said, "I don't know what transpired between Prime Minister A B Vajpayee, Mamata Banerjee and Defence Minister George Fernandes."

Fernandes had visited to Midnapore last September to assess the law and order situation. He had then stated that the law and order situation in West Bengal was bad. Interestingly, he had visited Garbeta at that time.

Banerjee said that this incident has proved that there is no law and order situation in West Bengal and only Article 356 will bring normalcy in the state.
