Midnapore SP heckled,
car damaged by mob

A mob heckled Midnapore Superintendent of Police Gaurab Dutta and ransacked his car at Garbeta on Friday night when the SP was returning to the district headquarters after visiting Chotoangra village where Trinamul Congress claimed 18 of its supporters were massacred on Thursday night, police said.

The mob, comprising Trinamul Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party supporters, stopped the SP and damaged his car. They also heckled the SP alleging inaction 'in controlling the Communist Party of India-Marxist sponsored terror' in the district and abused him.

The ruling National Democratic Alliance is sending a team for an on-the-spot study of the situation at Chotoangra village on Saturday.

Police said they have so far not got any evidence or clue of the alleged massacre. They said interrogation of Trinamul Congress member Abdul Rahman, who had filed an FIR at Garbeta police station alleging the massacre, was on, police said.
