Japan sends relief aircraft, another expected Wednesday

A special chartered flight from Tokyo, carrying Japanese medical personnel and emergency disaster relief equipment for the Gujarat quake relief, will arriving in Delhi Tuesday evening.

After the protocol formalities, the plane with a 17-member medical team and four tons of equipment and material will reach Ahmedabad at 2115 hrs, according to the local office of the Japan International Cooperation Agency, the technical agency in charge of Japanese developmental assistance.

The Japanese team with good background in earthquake relief operations is equipped to provide emergency medical help to the affected people.

JICA said two more medical volunteers from Japan would join the relief team by Wednesday evening.

In another gesture, the Israeli government announced plans to fly in a field hospital to Bhuj in five Israeli Air Force aircraft.

It will have 150 medical personnel. The team will be led by Moti Amihai, director of South East Asia Division of Israel's foreign affairs ministry.
