USAID to send second batch of relief supplies on Wednesday

The US Agency for International Development has announced that it would send a second batch of emergency relief supplies to quake-hit Gujarat on Wednesday.

The supplies will include two water purification kits, 900 rolls of plastic sheeting, 800 tents and nine 3,000-gallon collapsible water tanks, a USAID release said.

The supplies will be dispatched from Pisa, Italy.

USAID had already pledged five million dollars in relief to the victims of the quake.

USAID has, through the Catholic Relief Services, begun distribution of 500 metric tons of emergency food aid, providing 100,000 daily rations in the affected areas.

An initial airlift of relief supplies, including plastic sheeting, blankets, water purification units, water distribution kits, water containers and generators arrived on Tuesday.
