More pilgrims leave for Amarnath

Another batch of 3,191 pilgrims, including 435 women and 29 children, left Jammu on Tuesday for the Kashmir valley to have darshan of the naturally formed ice lingam in the cave shrine at Amarnath.

The pilgrims will trek along the Pahalgam and Baltal routes to the shrine situated at a height of 3,880 metres in the South Kashmir Himalayas.

Escorted by security forces, the pilgrims left from the M A M Stadium in Jammu in a fleet of 176 vehicles, including 59 buses, officials said.

Meanwhile, a woman pilgrim, identified as Seeta Devi of Surat, died of a heart attack near Panjtarni on Monday.

With this, a total of seven pilgrims have died so far since the annual pilgrimage began on July 2.
