28 feared drowned in Bulandshahr

At least 28 people were feared drowned when a boat ferrying them capsized midstream in river Ganga near Narora in Bulandshahr district of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday.

The boat was carrying 35 people, who were to perform yagna (ritual) at a place close to Narora, when it sank, police said.

While seven swam to safety, the rest were missing and presumed dead, they said adding that three bodies had been recovered.

Rescue operations were on with divers pressed into service to locate bodies or any possible survivor.
