Sena leaders granted bail

Our correspondent in Bombay

Gajanan Kirtikar, former minister of state for home in the BJP-Shiv Sena government, and four other Sena leaders were granted bail by a lower court in suburban Bombay.

Kirtikar, Sena MLA Nandkumar Kale, corporator Ravindra Waikar, Shridhar Khade and Raghunath Kadam were granted bail on a sum of Rs 1,000 each by Metropolitan Magistrate Yusuf Zai.

A charge-sheet was filed against these leaders by the Special Task Force set up by the Democratic Front government with a view to implement the Srikrishna Commission report.

Kirtikar and the other Sena leaders were charged by the STF for their role in disturbing communal harmony in Bombay, which witnessed widespread riots in the aftermath of the demolition of the Babri masjid in December 1992.
