The outlawed People's War Group of Naxalites on Saturday shot dead a Congress leader in the extremist-affected Karimnagar district in Andhra Pradesh.
A police sub-inspector and a constable were also killed in a landmine blast triggered by the PWG, near Ibrahimpatnam town, on the outskirts of Hyderabad on Saturday afternoon.
A state police spokesman said that Tula Sudhakar Rao, mandal unit president of the Congress, was killed in Mutlapalli village in Kalava Srirampur mandal in the morning.
Four Naxalites came shot him dead at point blank range in his house.
A police party launched combing operations against the Naxalites, who fled after the incident.
Rangareddy district police spokesman said sub-inspector G Saidaiah and constable Sailu were killed on the spot when their motorcycle hit a landmine between Bandalemuru and Chennareddyguda villages, about 25 km from here.
They were returning to Manchal police station, after providing bandobast for a Janmabhoomi programme at Bandalemuru village, which falls in Ibrahimpatnam assembly constituency, represented by Social Welfare Minister K Pushpaleela.
The others, including a nodal officer, returned from the village, but the sub-inspector and constable stayed back for 15 minutes for some work.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu condemned the killing of the two police personnel.
