Chief Minister Rajnath Singh told reporters in Lucknow that "in the present situation, the state government does not see a role for itself in issuing a fresh notification for trying the three Union ministers among others who got a reprieve from the Central Bureau of Investigation court in the Ayodhya case."
Referring to repeated demands in this regard by opposition leaders, including Congress president Sonia Gandhi, he said if a competent court issued a directive for the purpose, the state government would examine what it could do.
"At present, the case is with CBI and they are doing the needful," Singh said.
Last Friday, Gandhi had written to Prime Minister Atal Bihar Vajpayee, expressing distress over a delay in removing shortcomings in the notification.
She said as per her information, the CBI had sent a communication more than a month back, recommending that central government advise the Uttar Pradesh government to rectify "infirmities" in the notification.
