Ghimire remanded to three
days' police custody

A three-member bench, presided over by Justice Mohan Prakash Sitola, reprimanded the police for not bringing sufficient documents to prove their charges and justify their plea for 25 days' custody of the accused to conduct investigations.

The order, passed after a three-hour hearing, came as journalists in the capital city again took to the streets, protesting against the arrest, which they termed as an attack on press freedom.

Ghimire and the two directors were arrested on Wednesday following publication of an article by underground Maoist leader Baburam Bhattarai in the paper.

Emerging from the court, Ghimire told reporters that he was grateful to the Nepalese and Indian media for coming out in his support.

A senior diplomat of the United States of America, which had demanded Ghmire's immediate release, sat through the proceedings at the Anamnagar court.
