Bajrang Dal chief surrenders
in Hyderabad

Syed Amin Jafri in Hyderabad

Dr Surender Kumar Jain, president of the Bajrang Dal, surrendered before IVth Metropolitan Magistrate N Ranoji on Tuesday in connection with a case filed against him by the Hyderabad police.

Jain was later released on bail.

He had been booked under Section 153 (a) of the Indian Penal Code in connection with a press conference address by him in Hyderabad on March 18 this year wherein he is alleged to have made provocative remarks likely to offend the sentiments of the Muslim community.

The police registered a case at the Sultan Bazaar police station following an assurance given by state Home Minister T Devender Goud in the Assembly on March 19 after Majlis-e-Ittehaadul Muslimeen (MIM) member Asaduddin Owaisi raised the issue.

Jain is a professor of economics at Rohtak University.
