No body found yet in Malda boat mishap

No bodies have been found of the victims who were travelling in the ill-fated boat that capsized on June 23, said the district magistrate of Malda, Ajit Ranjan Bardhan, on Monday.

Two launches and eight boats scanned the Ganga for two days from Manikchawk to Farakka, he added

Bardhan said that till 2 pm Monday no body could be found. He said the search would continue till Tuesday evening, beyond which the search would be "meaningless".

The district magistrate alleged he was not getting any cooperation from the Sahebganj district administration of Jharkhand, though most of the victims belonged to Jharkhand.

Bardhan alleged the Sahebganj district administration is not doing anything under the pretext that the spot where the boat sank officially fell under Malda district.

"It would be better if we could work together specially when it was the question of life and death", he said.

Earlier, four bodies were recovered on the day of the mishap.

Over 50 persons are feared drowned, when a motorised boat coming from Saptagachi village of Jharkhand overturned near Ekshatirchar of Malda district on June 23.
