Trinamul, JMM(S) to have seat adjustments

The Trinamul Congress and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (Soren) have agreed upon seat adjustments in at least 15 tribal-dominated seats in the forthcoming assembly elections in the state, JMM(S) leader Shibu Soren said in Calcutta Saturday.

"We have reached an agreement for seat adjustment the in tribal-stronghold seats in Purulia, Bankura, Midnapore, Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling districts," Soren said.

These seats are Raipur, Raniband, Salboni, Jhargram, Nayagram, Binpur, Arsa, Bandwan, Kumargram, Falakata, Madarihat, Nagrakata, Dhupguri, Kalchni and Phansidewa.

Strongly justifying his party's decision to ally with Trinamul Congress, he said, "We believe that the interest of tribals in Bengal will be safe in Mamata Banerjee's hands. The Left Front has always tried to scuttle our genuine demands."

Asked on whose initiative this alliance was worked out, Soren said. "Banerjee herself is interested."

To a question, he said his party's alliance with the Trinamul Congress had "nothing to do with it being a constituent of NDA nor with its association with BJP".

Asked whether his party would field candidates against BJP, Soren said, "We may but we have nothing to do with it. We can't be of course performing puja for the BJP."

He parried a question whether his party will associate with the common manifesto of NDA or Trinamul-BJP combine, saying, "Our manifesto about tribal welfare in known to one and all."
