Pollution Board may trip DPC

Firdaus Ashraf in Bombay

The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board has issued a direction to the Dabhol Power Company under Section 33 (A) of the Water Act and Section 31 (A) of the Air Act to stop the trial run of Phase-II of the power project until the Board gives its consent for the same.

Member-Secretary of the MPCB K H Mehta told rediff.com said, "They had commenced the trial run without the MPCB's consent, which we came to know of in January end. We told the company that it was not right to conduct the trial run."

"However, they ignored our February 9 warning. Since, they have violated the rules, we will have to take action against them," Mehta said.

He declined to say what action the MPCB would take against the DPC.

DPC has MPCB's approval for Phase-I of its power project but not for Phase-II.
