Oppn demands time-bound statement on bribes

Tara Shankar Sahay in New Delhi

The Opposition in the Rajya Sabha led by the Congress on Tuesday demanded a time-bound statement from the government on the alleged bribes paid to Bharatiya Janata Party president Bangaru Laxman and the Samata Party's Jaya Jaitley, as part of tehelka.com's expose on the murky world of defence deals.

Raising the matter in the house after the calling attention motion on the stock market, Leader of the Opposition Dr Manmohan Singh told the chairperson (Suresh Pachauri) that the expose, of the BJP and Samata Party chief allegedly accepting bribes in a defence deal, was a very serious matter, and that the government should make a time-bound statement on the same.
