Who is Raj Kumar Gupta?

Basharat Peer in New Delhi

Who is Raj Kumar Gupta?

Gupta is a national trustee of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh who established its headquarters in Jhandelwalan, Delhi in 1967. He spent Rs 50 lakh to build it.

Gupta is on record on videotapes by tehelka.com, whose journalists posed as military equipment sellers and paid bribes to further the case of selling non-existent military equipment.

Known as the RSS's super trustee, he claimed to have had Union Home Minister L K Advani as his tenant. He also boasts to be close to Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, saying that he had told Bharatiya Janata Party president Bangaru Laxman to do whatever Gupta said.

He claimed to be a fixer in the T-90 tank and Sukhoi deals. He said he paid the BJP around Rs 3-4 crore every month and is expecting a commission of Rs 100 crore from deals this year.

But RSS spokesman M G Vaidya said, "There is no Raj Kumar Gupta in the RSS who is a national or even regional trustee. The RSS has got nothing to do with it."
