The Trinamul Congress Party has withdrawn its support to the ruling National Democratic Alliance at the Centre.
The party chief and Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee announced this decision at a crowded press conference in New Delhi on Thursday.
She said her party has withdrawn support to the NDA government because despite her letter to the prime minister on the issue of Tehelka disclosures, no inquiry has yet been instituted into the matter.
She hoped that the prime minister would initiate the strongest possible action against those involved in the scam.
The Trinamul Congress also unilaterally cancelled its electoral alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party for the assembly elections in West Bengal.
''There is no point in having alliance after our decision to withdraw support to the NDA government,'' Trinmul Congress policy-making committee chairman Pankaj Banerjee told reporters in Calcutta, according to a UNI report.
