NDA ready for a trial of strength: PM

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Sunday went on a counter-offensive against the Congress, challenging it to a trial of strength in Parliament.

Addressing a rally of Bharatiya Janata Party workers at Rawatbhatta in Rajashthan, Vajpayee said the Congress lacked the required number in the House and was, therefore, levelling allegations and demanding his government's resignation outside Parliament.

"Congress has a habit of toppling governments and is forging alliances with other parties to come to power, something which the party has done in Bihar," he said.

Vajpayee said the Congress was "upset with the achievements of my government -- stability, sound economy and social harmony. That is why it wants to topple the government."

Challenging the Opposition to bring a no-confidence motion and obstruct budgetary debate in Parliament, he said the government is ready to face the trial of strength.
