Rattled by the Congress and Samajwadi Party agreeing to sink their differences and explore an alternative to the National Democratic Alliance government, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday advanced its National Executive meeting to counter the Opposition's allegations against the government on the Tehelka expose.
The venue has also been shifted to Delhi because Calcutta lost its lustre as an attractive venue following the Trinamul Congress' decision to break away from the NDA.
Aware that the Opposition was honing its strategy on the issue of bringing down the government, BJP spokesman V K Malhotra said, "The BJP National Executive meeting has been advanced to March 24 and 25 considering the latest political developments."
This will be followed by the first of numerous rallies by the NDA, on March 25, to explain the government's stand on the defence deals scandal and criticise the Opposition for stalling Parliament.
"Vajpayee too will address the NDA rally in Delhi after the National Executive meet concludes," Malhotra told rediff.com.
According to the BJP spokesman, the NDA was united in its endeavour to 'defeat the conspiracy of the Congress-inspired Opposition campaign'.
Earlier, the meet was scheduled to be held in Calcutta on March 30 and 31.
Malhotra launched a frontal assault on Congress chief Sonia Gandhi for her Bangalore speech in her party's plenary session on Sunday wherein she attacked Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and PMO officials.
He said Opposition parties had 'lost all shame and respect for our parliamentary traditions'.
The people all over the country would be apprised about the Opposition's devious game plan, he said, adding that they had 'cowered instead of accepting the prime minister's challenge for a confidence vote'.
