Case registered against
Bajrang Dal convenor

Syed Amin Jafri in Hyderabad

The Hyderabad City Police has registered a case against Dr Surendra Jain, national convenor of the Bajrang Dal for making "provocative statements which are likely to offend the sentiments of a community".

In a statement on Monday, City Police Commissioner Pervaram Ramulu said that Jain made the statements at a press conference at the Bajrang Dal office in the city on Sunday. A case has been registered at Sultan Bazar police station under the Indian Penal Code and investigations were on, he said. "Action will be taken in accordance with the law after a due inquiry," he added.

The police commissioner appealed to the people not to be carried away by such statements as prompt action was taken by registering a case in the matter. He asked the people to uphold good traditions, maintain tolerance and preserve communal harmony and peace in the city.
