Six AGP workers killed in ULFA attack

Six Asom Gana Parishad workers were killed in continuing United Liberation Front of Asom attacks on party workers in Assam's Nalbari district on Thursday night, police said on Friday.

The ULFA militants attacked the AGP's party office at Bogorihatigaon in Dharmapur, Agriculture Minister Chandramohan Patowary's constituency, and opened fire.

Three workers were killed on the spot, while another died on the way to hospital, police said. Two others succumbed to injuries at the Nalbari civil hospital.

Six others were seriously injured and shifted to Guwahati Medical College Hospital.

The agriculture minister is on the ULFA's hit-list.

In another incident, 17 AGP workers were injured in a grenade attack by ULFA at a party poll office in Goalpara.

The ULFA men lobbed two grenades at the office, where about 30 people were present. Seventeen persons were injured, one of them critically, in the attack.

ULFA, in stepped up pre-poll violence, has killed 27 people, including the Bharatiya Janata Party's Dibrugarh candidate Jayanta Dutta, and injured more than 50 people, including Barpeta's AGP candidate Kumar Dipak Das.
