Assam polls: Ultras gun down six persons,
destroy party offices

At least six political activists were killed in poll-related violence on Friday night and several party offices destroyed as violence escalated throughout the state with only five days left for the May 10 assembly election.

Unidentified gunmen shot dead two persons at Biswanath Chariali and three others in Dhekiajuli constituency on Friday night.

A Congress worker was also hacked to death in Chaigaon constituency, besides several party election offices destroyed in Dharmapur constituency, reports said.

With Friday night's killings, the toll, since the election process began in the state, rose to 35, official reports said.

The victims include a Bharatiya Janata Party candidate at Dibrugarh where the election has been countermanded.
