Plot to set off blast near J&K secretariat
in Srinagar foiled

An attempt by militants to set off a blast close to the Jammu and Kashmir secretariat, just 48 hours before the government starts functioning from the summer capital Srinagar, was foiled with the timely detection of a explosive device on Sunday.

Panic gripped the Neelam Chowk area, a stone's throw away from the civil secretariat, when a live grenade was found in the area. It was neutralised by the bomb disposal squad.

In another incident, detection of a powerful improvised explosive device near the J N V School at Lolab in the frontier district of Kupwara averted a major tragedy.

Meanwhile, militants kidnapped two constables Sajad Ahmad Ganai and Sajad Ahmad Kenu from a house at Anantnag. Ganai was let off later but the fate of Kenu was not yet known.

Two security personnel were wounded when militants attacked a security force patrol at Rafiabad in north Kashmir district of Baramulla on Sunday. The area has been cordoned off and a massive hunt launched to nab the militants responsible for the attack.
