13 deported from Muscat for
travelling with fake passports

Thirteen passengers, including six women, aboard an Indian Airlines flight bound for Muscat from Hyderabad airport on May 7, were deported by Muscat immigration officials on Tuesday for allegedly possessing fake passports, the police said.

Ten passengers from Gujarat and one each from Bombay, Hyderabad and Karimnagar boarded the flight to go to Canada via Muscat, the police said.

However, the Muscat authorities found them to be travelling with fake passports, they added.

The immigration authorities at Muscat found that photographs of the original passport holders were replaced with photographs of these passengers.

The involvement of two agents from Hyderabad and Ahmedabad was suspected in the racket, the police said, adding that efforts were on to nab the agents.

All the deported passengers are being produced in a local court, the police added.
