Sonia will decide CM: Karunakaran

Former Kerala chief minister and senior Congress leader K Karunakaran asserted Sunday that the poll verdict was a reflection of the people's anger against the Left Democratic Front misrule, and said new chief minister would be decided by Congress President Sonia Gandhi.

"Sonia Gandhi will decide the chief minister after consultations with elected representatives and also senior leaders," said Karunakaran.

Karunakaran said the time and date of the first meeting of the Congress Legislature Party would be fixed by the party high command.

He said the people who had poured forth their anger against the misrule and anti-people policies of the LDF, were happy with the outcome of the elections. "It seemed that the people were fed up with the outgoing government."

Replying to a question, he said unity in the Congress and the UDF was also a major factor that contributed to their victory.

Congress Working Committee member A K Anthony said the people had given a clear verdict against the LDF government. The people who had been disgruntled with the Nayanar government, had written the verdict against it.
