Sen bail plea adjourned to June 4

Syed Amin Jafri in Hyderabad

The Andhra Pradesh High Court has adjourned hearing of the anticipatory bail plea of Anita Sen, prime accused in the child trafficking case, till reopening of the court after the summer vacation.

When the petition came up for hearing on Tuesday, Justice V Eshwaraiah adjourned the hearing of the anticipatory bail application till the summer vacation ends. The high court is on vacation till June 1. The court will reopen on June 4, after the weekend holidays for two days.

Sen had moved the anticipatory bail application in the high court on Monday, after a similar plea was rejected by the metropolitan sessions judge, Hyderabad, on May 9.

As Sen is at large, the Criminal Investigation Department enhanced the reward to Rs 500,000 for clues on her. A similar reward amount has been announced for her assistant Dr Sarita.

Anita Sen, director, Precious Moments Adoption Home and wife of Additional Director-General of Police Swaranjit Sen, faces a criminal case in connection with child trafficking and running an unrecognised adoption home.

The CID teams could not trace out Sen, who is absconding, after her adoption home was raided and 61 infants and children were rescued on April 26.

Additional DGP (welfare and sports) Swaranjit was also shifted from his post, but he has not been given a fresh posting. "He is kept in waiting," official sources said. He was reportedly shifted after Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed displeasure over the episode relating to Anita Sen's adoption home.

Meanwhile, CID teams probing the child adoption racket have again summoned Swaranjit and his sons Monty (4) and Stephen (22) to enquire about Anita Sen.

The CID had earlier questioned Swaranjit Sen his sons on her whereabouts but to no avail.
