Tiger skulls, bones seized; 5 arrested

Police seized eight skulls of tigers, 42 kgs of tiger bones and ivory in Pilibhit district of Uttar Pradesh and arrested five persons in this connection, Deputy Inspector General (Border Police) S K Saxena, said in Lakhimpur Kheri on Wednesday.

He said the five were arrested on Tuesday near Chuka Kothi in the hilly district bordering Nepal for smuggling tiger parts.

"It is yet to ascertained if these people are poachers themselves or simply carriers of animal carcasses," the DIG said.

A case had been registered under the Wildlife Act and further investigations were on, he said.
