12 rescued from collapsed AP building

Syed Amin Jafri in Hyderabad

Five bodies were retrieved and over 12 persons rescued from the debris of a collapsed building at Karepalli village in Khammam district in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday morning.

Rescue work is on to locate more bodies and survivors.

Khammam District Collector A Giridhar has ordered a magisterial enquiry into the incident.

The Yellandu police have also registered a case against the building's owner.

The collapsed building was a part of the Sri Raja Rajeshwari Engineering College campus.

Giridhar said the cause of the collapse was being investigated. However, it was apparent that site supervision was defective, he added.
