35 feared drowned in UP boat mishap

Thirty-five people were feared drowned when a boat capsized in Ghaghra river near Chakkaghat, about 60 km from Faizabad in Uttar Pradesh, on Thursday, police said.

Twenty-two bodies have so far been fished out from the river, police said, adding one person was rescued.

The mishap occurred when the overcrowded boat lost balance and capsized midstream, they said.

Search and rescue operations were in full swing and senior officials had rushed to the site, they said.

The victims were going to Paska Bazar in Gonda district to purchase goats and other domestic animals, police said.
