9 killed as train rams into a van near Moradabad

At least nine people were killed and 10 injured on Sunday when an express train rammed into a van in which they were travelling at an unmanned level crossing near Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh, a Northern Railway spokesman said.

The accident occurred when the 4555 Bareilly-Delhi Express approached an unmanned gate between Kundarki and Machharyi stations in Moradabad division in the evening, the spokesman said.

Though the driver had applied emergency brakes, the train rammed into the van, he said.

Teams of officers and doctors immediately rushed to the accident site, which is about 10 km from Moradabad.

A special train with accident relief medical equipment has left for the site from Moradabad.
