Seven BSF personnel, including an officer, killed by militants in Baramulla district

Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar

Seven personnel, including an officer, of the paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF) were killed and two wounded by militants late on Wednesday evening at Achabal village near Sopore town in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district.

Sources said Assistant Commandant I A Khan of the 88 battalion died on the spot after militants hiding in the village hurled grenades and opened heavy fire on a raiding party led by him.

The BSF rushed reinforcements from Sopore and the area was sealed while searches were mounted to nab the culprits.
