Samajwadi party president Mulayam Singh Yadav on Thursday ruled out any truck with the Congress party in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.
"There is no chance of sharing seats with Congress in Uttar Pradesh; there isn't scope of any friendly fight," Mulayam Singh Yadav, who is also the convenor of the People's Front, said after a meeting of the Front.
Yadav said their main opponent in UP was the Bharatiya Janata Party, adding 'there is no Congress in the state'.
Asked whether it would be possible to take on BJP without the support of Congress, he asserted that the Front would secure absolute majority.
To a question, Yadav said although leaders of non-Congress opposition parties attended a dinner meeting recently where Congress President Sonia Gandhi was present, it was limited to floor coordination in Parliament.
Echoing Yadav's views, Front Chairman Jyoti Basu said there was no question of forging electoral understanding with Congress.
Asked about the possibility of post-poll understanding with Congress in the state in the event of a hung assembly, Basu said: ''Let us see after the elections.''
On this, Yadav said such a situation would not arise since the Front would come to power on its own.
