The Jammu and Kashmir police has confirmed that the cadres of Osama bin Laden's Al Qaeda are active in the valley and have been participating in some of the suicide attacks on the security forces.
However, it is not yet confirmed whether any of the four militants who were killed during their attempt to storm the Avantipura airport was a member of the Al Qaeda.
"We have already established links between the Lashkar-e-Tayiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed with the Al Qaeda. These two organisations have been receiving funds from Osama bin Laden's outfit," a senior police officer told rediff.com recently.
The presence of Al Qaeda terrorists came to the notice of the police during the last couple of weeks. One of the Al Qaeda operatives was killed by the state police in an encounter in Gandarbal in Srinagar last week.
Talking to rediff.com, Inspector General of Jammu and Kashmir police and in charge of the Kashmir division Ashok Bhan said that as far as the police was concerned all the terrorists were the same.
"Names really don't matter to us. They are all being trained and financed from across the border," he said.
