NSCN (I-M) office in Dimapur attacked

Gunmen attacked the office of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Issac-Muivah) in Dimapur in Nagaland on Tuesday night damaging the office and seriously injuring one person.

NSCN-IM sources said nearly 15 gunmen came in two vehicles, surrounded the office and opened fire indiscriminately for about 20 minutes.

A senior police official said the motive behind the attack was not known.

The NSCN-IM claimed the attack was jointly carried out by the rival NSCN (Khaplang) faction and another militant outfit, NNC.

Senior NSCN-IM leader and publicity secretary V Horam told reporters in Kohima that it was an attempt to kill the convenor of the NSCN-IM cease-fire monitoring cell Pungthing Shimrang, who was not present at the time of the incident.
