Shiv Sena expels Thane rebels

The Shiv Sena on Tuesday expelled Nandu Shedge and four of his associates for their decision to float Anand Sena, an outfit named after firebrand Sena leader Anand Dighe, whose death recently sparked off violence in Thane.

Denying reports that the formation of the outfit had created a rift in the Sena unit, party sources said Shedge and others had been expelled for their anti-party activities.

By forming the Anand Sena, these activists were giving a bad name to the departed leader, the sources said, adding that the party would continue with Dighe's work and there was no need for a separate outfit.

Shedge, while announcing the formation of Anand Sena on October 26, had made it clear that the new outfit had nothing to do with the Shiv Sena and was aimed at continuing the constructive work of his mentor Anand Dighe.

"Anand Sena would not enter politics nor would it contest elections," Shedge added.
