ABVP burns Christian booklets in Bengal

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the BJP, on Monday set fire to Christian booklets protesting that they contained language unsuitable for school students, at Uluberia in West Bengal's Howrah district, police said.

Police said that the ABVP had allegedly asked seven schools in the area to return booklets distributed by Christian missionaries recently. All but the Uluberia high school did so.

The ABVP activists secured a large number of booklets and set fire to them before the Uluberia high school, they said.

Local BJP leader Samir Hait said, "The literature distributed by the missionaries was harmful for young minds. They are out to pollute the atmosphere of the schools."
