BSP's Maurya recognised as Leader of Opposition in UP assembly

Speaker Kesrinath Tripathi on Tuesday recognised BSP legislature party leader Swami Prasad Maurya as the Leader of Opposition in the Uttar Pradesh assembly.

Earlier, SP leader Dhani Ram Verma had held the post for almost four-and-half years.

The 50-member BSP became the largest opposition group in the 403-member state assembly following the en masse resignation of the 102 Samajwadi Party MLAs, Tripathi told reporters in Lucknow.

Meanwhile, a brief session of the assembly would begin from September 26, Vidhan Sabha secretary R P Pandey said in a release on Tuesday.
