UP: SP claims support of several BJP, BSP MLAs

The Samajwadi Party has claimed that several MLAs belonging to the BJP, BSP and other parties have promised to support it in forming the government in Uttar Pradesh.

Accusing Governor Vishnu Kant Shastri of acting 'as an agent of the BJP', party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav told reporters in Etawah on Monday that Shastri has 'violated constitutional traditions by ignoring the claim of the SP to form the government'.

He alleged that the governor acted at the behest of the BJP high command.

He claimed that he had the requisite numbers and was ready to prove his majority in the assembly.
