Maharashtra bar owners call off
strike, but no liquor yet

While bar owners in Maharashtra called off their indefinite strike on Wednesday, they have decided not serve liquor in their restaurants till the Maharashtra government revises its decision to hike the liquor license fee by 300 per cent.

A three-member committee appointed by the government will look into hotel owners' demands on Tuesday. The state will have to go dry till then.

The indefinite strike was launched on Monday after the state government hiked the liquor license fee from Rs 1,61,000 to Rs 500,000.

The police license fee was also hiked from Rs 750 per annum to Rs 10,000.
