Road accident in Howrah, 21 killed

At least 21 pilgrims, including 17 women, were killed and 17 injured when the van carrying them collided with a truck on a bridge in Howrah district, West Bengal, on Friday.

District Magistrate Vivek Kumar said the pilgrims, hailing from Ashuri Schoolmath area of South 24 Parganas district, were going to attend the Charak fair at Narna Shiva temple.

The accident took place at about 7:30 am on the Garfa bridge.

The injured were admitted to the Howrah General Hospital.
