After making major changes at the central level, the second phase of party chief Sonia Gandhi's revamp of the Congress involves major changes in the state units whose performance has not been satisfactory, a top party leader indicated.
"Congress presidents in such states have to tighten their shoe shoe laces," pointed out senior party leader Ambika Soni.
The party leadership cannot afford to 'overlook sloppy work', she said.
"There is considerable enthusiasm in the party now that Sonia Gandhi's leadership has placed us in power in 14 states. With the National Democratic Alliance government fast losing credibility, we intend to consolidate out grip in the remaining states too. If we are to achieve our objective, there can be no laxity on our part," she pointed out.
A party spokesman indicated that Sonia Gandhi was not satisfied with the state unit chiefs of Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal and West Bengal.
Sonia had expressed dissatisfaction over the handling of party affairs in some Congress-ruled states during the recent conclave of Congress chief ministers in Guwahati, he pointed out.
