The raids were conducted simultaneously to prevent miscreants from crossing over from one district to another, he told newspersons in Kolkata.
Among those arrested, 1,965 had warrants against them and of these, 481 were wanted in connection with specific cases.
Altogether 1,468 were picked up from North 24-Parganas district, 1,100 from South 24-Parganas, 830 from Birbhum, 695 from Darjeeling, 557 from Hooghly, 531 from Burdwan and 370 from Midnapore East and West districts, he said.
Mukherjee said 53 firearms of various kinds, 67 rounds of ammunition, 114 bombs and two daggers, besides 11,337 litre of illicit liquor and Rs 14,164 in gambling money were seized from those arrested.
He said it was being ascertained whether any of those arrested had links with militant organisations.
Mukherjee said that such raids would continue.
